Interview with

Nigel Parry

#1. Where are you from?

I’m from a village in the industrial part of South Yorkshire England called Darfield. (Visualize somewhere similar to the outskirts of Pittsburgh PA)

#2. How did you fall in love with Photography?

My  photography career  came on fast and furious. After taking photographs since my early teens, whilst working as a Graphic designer I was offered an exhibition at a Club called the Groucho in London’s Soho. It all started from that (a much longer story than we can tell here).

#3. What is your ideal shoot?

my ideal shoot is a one which starts in a studio (to ensure controlled circumstances) and then moved to a location  (to let things run a bit wild).

#4. If you weren’t a photographer, what do you see yourself doing?

if I wasn’t a photographer I’d be a painter, or a director of photography (if one was able to just choose - but that’s not the case is it? - so I’m sure I’d still be a Graphic designer)

#5. What’s your mantra?

I have 3 mantras. 1) there are a million solutions to a photographic problem why give the client something he/she doesn’t want? 2) when you are entrusted with a subjects face to tell others about them, you must never ever lose the sitters dignity. And 3) when I’m stuck I can manage.

#6. What’s your hidden talent?

My hidden Talent? - I can sing.

#7. What would people be surprised to know about you?

What would people be surprised to know about me? I don’t think people that know me would be surprised to hear about anything I’ve done, am doing, will do.

#8. What do you wish someone would invent?

I’d love a ‘beam me anywhere Scotty’ device to be invented. (12 million miles flown puts you right off flying - for ever.)

#9. Any go-to karaoke songs?

I have 2 Karaoke songs- ‘My way’ (Sinatra - or ‘New York’)  and ‘Yellow’ (Cold Play)

#10. What is your spirit animal?

My spirit animal is undoubtedly a bear. Big hairy and grizzly.
